R’ Yitzchok Rotbard zt”l (Kehillas Yitzchok) would say: “'ויקרא משה להושע בן נון יהושע' - Rashi comments that Moshe prayed that Hashem protect Yehoshua from the plan of the spies. Why did Moshe single out Yehoshua? Eldad and Meidad prophesied that Moshe would pass away and Yehoshua would bring the Jewish people into Eretz Yisroel. Yehoshua was extremely devoted to his beloved Rebbe Moshe and an exceptionally humble person (Targum Yonasan). Moshe feared that Yehoshua would join the spies and delay the entry into Eretz Yisroel in order to cause Moshe his Rebbe to live longer and to humbly avoid becoming the leader himself.”
