R’ Avraham Reuven Katz zt”l (Yalkut Reuvani) would say:
“Why was Menashe ben Yosef, destined to have his legacy split in half? Since Menashe was the one who caused the brothers to rend their garments when he chased after them in Egypt and removed the goblet from the sack of Binyamin, his inheritance was split. Instead of the entire tribe receiving its portion in one area, it got half in Eretz Yisroel and the other half on the opposite side of the Jordan.”
