R’ Yoel Teitelbaum zt”l (Satmar Rebbe) would say: “'עיני ה' אלקיך בה מרשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה' - This posuk would have been more grammatically correct if it had said, ‘to the end of the year.’ Often, a person will approach Rosh Hashana with great intentions. He plans to turn his life around. He believes this is the year he will follow through. But as time passes, the good intentions fade away, and he slips back to his old ways. By year’s end, it becomes clear that this wasn’t the year, after all. It was just another year, like all the rest.”
